New ‘phone

My new 'phone

Well, I’ve finally gone and done it. After months of saying that I wanted one I’ve bought myself a new mobile ‘phone and changed my tariff at the same time.

My now old ‘phone – a Nokia 8910 – has served me well for over three years, but a little carelessness on my part over the recent months has meant that it started to fall apart a little and the keys were becoming sporadically unresponsive.

So I bit the bullet and upgraded to another Nokia – all my mobile ‘phones have been made by Nokia, and I bought an 8800 Sirocco, black naturally.

It’s a really nice ‘phone, and the first personal mobile I’ve had with a camera in it (I really don’t think I’ll be using the camera that much to be honest and I wouldn’t have minded there being no camera at all, but you try getting a new, good looking mobile today without a camera being shoe-horned into the enclosure).

The only downside is all the ringtones and message alert tones are crap. I mean really crap. Not even remotely usable. So I’m on the prowl for a good tone. I could use an AAC file if I wanted to, but I really like the Low ring tone from my previous Nokias so I think I’ll try and find that to start with.

Carting.

Went carting (or karting as the place likes to call it) and out of seven of us that went I made the podium in thrid place.
What makes this noteworthy is that all the other six people consider themselves know-it-alls when it comes to motoring.
They’re all a bunch of petrol heads that like nothing more than to talk at length about cars, performance and how to get the most out of an engine.

One guy simply walked out of the place after hearing that he wasn’t in the final. After the final and the results had been announced another guy was so upset about his placing that he had the guy running the place take him through the heats and final positioning meticulously. Talk about bad losers.

Anyway, my Brother-in-Law was the winner and his girlfriend came in second place.
I had a fantastic night.

Liberator

Finally, after all these years of waiting, my favourite spacecraft ever has been released in a large format, build it yourself model.

The DSV-1 Liberator includes 46 resin parts and is almost 14″/356mm in length when built (excluding antennae). It also includes two transparent half domes to allow for lighting of the engine section. Also included are comprehensive decals and brass rods for the antennae.

A breakdown of some of the parts and a completed model can be seen here. It can be purchased from Titan Find, and someone has also documented their build of this most awesome craft.
